Funny story from the airplane...

So, we make the same announcements...every flight...6 flights a day...

JUST like the passengers, sometimes we don't really listen or pay attention either!!  So I'm in the middle of my announcement when I realized I wasn't paying attention to where I was or what I was saying.  I suddenly was side tracked by the passengers sitting next to me that were talking to one another.  I was right in the part of the announcement where I announce the crew.  Usually we have a print out of the flight details but on this particular day I was working 2 different locals (there and back flights) back to back.

What does this mean?! This means that I wrote down some of the important info but I didn't have it all for my second flight.  I had written the captain and first officers names so I read them but as I came to the name of the other FA (Flight Attendant) I COULD NOT REMEMBER HIS NAME!! I went to training with this guy! I know him! That's why I didn't have to write down his name (should have!!)

Now everyone is paying attention because they realized there was suddenly silence over the PA and the other FA is awkwardly standing in front of the cabin.  I thought he would laugh, realize I'm an idiot, and mouth his name to me (while rolling his eyes - which I would be TOTALLY fine with).  NO!! He just stood there!!!
Not laughing...
Not smiling...
Not even rolling his eyes and definitely not mouthing his name to me.

I couldn't recover.  I was stuck! The guy next to me finally finished my sentence by saying "Billy Bob". So I continued and said, "That's Billy Bob up front.  My name is Heather and we are here to help you in the cabin"

As he walked down the isle to do his final safety check while I was finishing the announcement I listed names in my head and nothing stuck out.  I STILL COULD NOT THINK OF HIS NAME!! I squinted and finally saw the R and remembered.  RALPH! DUH!!!

Did he make eye contact and laugh as he walked up to me? NO.  Didn't say a word...didn't even look at me and turned and walked back down the isle to the front of the airplane.

After I finished the announcement and did the final, final safety check I walked up and was like "Oh my gosh Ralph! I totally know your name is Ralph!! That was so weird Ralph!! Can you believe that blank I pulled over the PA Ralph??" Did I over do it?! YES.  Did his demeanor change? No.  haha OH WELL!!

What's my excuse??  When you can't fall asleep at night anymore...so you get 5 hours of sleep or less and then you work a 12 hour day on the last 2 hours...its bound to happen, right?

Right or not, it did.  I felt so bad.  I felt so awkward that he was so awkward.  And then I got over it and called 3 FA friends to tell them the hilarious story and then tell them that he did not walk out with me to the bus after the flight (like we always do with our crews).  The first chance he had to bolt, he did.  No, "Nice flying with you. Gotta run.  See you later."  Just started walking even faster and never looked back.

I guess I can't blame him.

Wednesday Weight Watch

Since I have started looking at blogs (one week ago) I have noticed that a lot of people do a "Wednesday Want".  There are a lot of things I want, but since my "project"/goal right now is to lose weight I thought I'd track my progress every week as the WWW (Wednesday Weight Watch).

Out of my 3 easy steps...eat healthier, exercise/run, and take hydroxycut...all I have done is take hydroxycut.  LOL SAD!!! I KNOW!!

So, the goal this week is to take the before picture and run at least 3 times! (I figure that is do-able).  I MUST start tomorrow.  I will also start counting points with weight watchers so I stop just indulging in food...all day....every day.  :)

Lets hope next Wednesday I have more to report back on!!

PERKS of my job

There are good things and bad things about every job and today...we will focus on the positive (something I need to focus on doing more of)

Last week, I had a trip that over nighted in Phoenix.  I landed on Friday around 1 PM.  I was VERY excited to see my family in THAT state finally and get paid to get there.  WELL, I had SO much fun that I decided I didn't want to leave.  Why would I leave Saturday when Matt would arrive Sunday to see the dentist and get his teeth fixed Monday and Tuesday?  Well I had to go back to Salt Lake because I started a different trip on Monday, right?! WRONG!!

I love my job.  I decided I didn't want to leave...the weather was beautiful in Arizona...

and not so much in Utah...

I only go back to Utah because that is where my husband is....but he would not be there this time....and yes I could work...but why?! when I could lay by a pool and eat all the yummy food my mom made me (down side - gained five pounds...oops I forgot, I'm focusing on the positive) and hang out with the family and the hubby all at the same time?!

I LOVE that I can change my mind and all my plans change the next day (I don't know if my family and friends love it quite so much because I'm hard to keep track of or plan with).  FIRST, I posted the legs (segments/flights) that I was working from Phoenix back to Salt Lake City.  I was nervous about whether or not someone would pick it up but they did! My plan was just to stay a few more days (leave Sunday) and have Matt come down early (Saturday night).  THEN, when he got there, I didn't WANT to leave on Sunday.  So, I posted my trip that started on Monday...someone picked it up and VOILA!  I was free until the next Friday!!

So, in Phoenix I stayed...in the sun I laid...and yummy, yummy food I ate!

Highlights:

Got to spend quality time with step sister, step brother, and step sisters fun friend.
Got PEDICURES with mom, step sister, and sister-in-law
Shopped at Charming Charlies with the same fun group
Mom made my favorite chocolate cookies with Andes mints on top
Made no bake cookies and fruit tarts with my step sister
Went to a drive in movie with the family and hubby
Mom made her home made kettle corn for the movie (EVERYONE knows I'm obsessed with kettle corn)
Hung out with sister and friend again and got Bahama Bucks TWICE On this trip
Went out to dinner with brother and sister-in-law and hot date (aka hubby)
Finished season 2 of 24...addicting
Laid by pool...as much as possible
Hubby got to golf...all day and into the night

Hubby got some of his teeth fixed (yes we travel to AZ to get our dental work done because my mom works for a dentist and I work for an airline so why not?!)
Mom made her AMAZING home made salsa and guac...did I mention it is amazing!
Got to visit and catch up with childhood friend from California
Went bowling with brother and sister-in-law
(Are you noticing most highlights include food?? hence the 5 pounds!!)

AND SOMEHOW, the queen of taking pictures took ONE on this trip.  I'll do better...I promise.  Its truly a shame because we did SO many fun things!

Final Story:   So, I went to the dental office to drop off bagels and goodies (as a thank you for all the work they had done for Matt) and they asked when I was leaving Arizona.  I said, "I don't know.  I was going to leave last night with the husband, but decided to stay until today.  I may leave tonight but I'm not sure yet.  I might just wait and leave tomorrow since Matt is busy tonight anyway."  (see why the flexibility my job provides that I personally cherish might drive others a little crazy?? :)

Everyone knows I don't like being tied down, I like to go places...often...and I don't mind making last minute plans....or changing my plans last minute.

2011 Goals...Delayed (I know) but better late than never

Again, trying to hold myself accountable by writing (typing) these out...

1)  Learn Portuguese or further my Spanish - the test will be able to get around a city by speaking in the language - see goal number 8
2)  Lose 10 pounds (the infamous goal)
3)  Read at least 6 books (sounds like nothing to some of you but for someone who is NOT a reader...its something)
4)  Sew at least 4 items for myself or charity (I don't know how to sew so this includes learning HOW)
5)  Complete at least 2 acts of charity (that sounds like NOTHING! but I'm talking about going to Africa and building a house and things of that nature) :)
6)  Move away from the snow (anyone who knows me or talks to me for more than 10 minutes - serious - knows that I HATE living in the snow
7)  Learn to play the guitar (since I OWN one but do not know how to play it)
8)  Visit at least 2 new countries (on my list are Brazil, Scotland, Australia, Italy, and others but those are my top ones)
9)  Create and stay on a budget (we kind of have one but don't look at it often) :)
10)  Take my math class so I can apply for my associates (that I completed other than that class 5 YEARS ago)
11)  Take at least 2 classes that interest me (NEED to use my brain since my job does not require much stimulation day to day - hence goal number 3 - becoming a reader)
12)  Run a half marathon
13) Cook and eat healthier - the Whole Foods challenge
14)  Keep up on a journal - at least one entry per week
15)  Learn how to golf aka bond with my husband in his most FAVORITE way

I think that is a good start.  I need to be reasonable because if I make a list of 20 or 30 things I may become overwhelmed... never look at this again... to act like I never made a list in the first place :)  I will not set myself up to fail...I WILL succeed.

The beginning...lets see if I can keep this up.

I am NOT a blogger.  Just like FB and Twighlight, I fight the fads for much longer than most, but I finally, ALWAYS give in.

For now, I think this will be a great way to keep track of the small details of life I will forget along the way and since I ALWAYS have a lap top with me but not a pad of paper, maybe this will be my journal.

BECAUSE no one is going to be reading my random, one post blog I figure even though this is public, its basically private and I will start with a subject I have been trying to work on but can't hold myself accountable for.  Being that technically its public, MAYBE that will help me stick to my goals.

SO, this weeks goal (more like this month or in the months to come) is to lose 10 pounds.  Being a new flight attendant, my weight has taken the biggest hit (or gain).  You are always in airports or in airplanes.  Either place, not so healthy.  Peanuts and cookies don't help my waist, and CPK or expensive places to eat inside the terminal don't help my pocket book OR love handles.  I don't lose weight very easily...never have.  But I have to prove to myself I can do this! Or how else will I know I can lose the baby weight when that day comes (sounds vain, I know but baby weight is a hard thing to handle!)

PLAN OF ATTACK:  I have a few recommendations from family and friends and these are the 3 I'm going to try to simultaneously insert into my life.

1) Choosing (and packing) healthier food - how? I'm going to use Weight Watchers.

I started it a week ago and it has TRULY opened my eyes as to WHY I have gained all this weight.  When you have to grab breakfast on the run because its 5 am and you are in a different time zone than your own, cereal isn't easy but a bagel is. (Plus as the HOARDER I am, you can grab a second one and have a free lunch.  Its a fun job but you don't make a ton of money and so you do what you can do to keep expenses low when you are on the road all the time).  Well the cereal with milk is around 4 points but the bagel??? 8! and that is with out cream cheese! (Who has a bagel WITHOUT cream cheese?? - not me)

When you are on a plane all day at high altitudes, carbonation literally distends your stomach.  One day after I had Fresca all day instead of water, I look down and realized I literally looked like I was 4 months pregnant (or however many months you are when you have a perfect little round bump that isn't big but just there).  It was so crazy and even hard like a baby was in there that I made my friend feel it.  They could SEE it but I wanted them to FEEL it wasn't even soft and mushy like my fat. LOL  So, what is my point?  Well I never used to drink juice but when soda does that to you?! and you still want some flavor with your food (I have a hard time drinking plain water with food) you start to grab OJ.  OJ has calcium and stuff at least, right?! ONE GLASS OF OJ (there are 2 glasses in a can on the airplane) is 4 points.  (8 points total!) I only get 29 points in a day.  8 points is usually a meal not a drink to go along with a meal!

So, I think at the least, this will help me make wiser choices and understand my intake.

2) Hydroxycut:  I have a friend that is a personal trainer and SHE used this product.  I came back from a summer and she had shrunk a COUPLE sizes! (Exactly what I would LOVE to do).  She said she took this pill that helps you burn double the calories and then started running a lot more.  Do I LOVE running!? Not really but I love how it seems to melt of the fat and inches! haha so I have decided I will.....

3) Train AND run a half marathon:  Same friend texted me today and says she is running one in May.  KIND OF freaks me out.  I'm not going to lie.  She is fit.  I am not.  And that is not much time to train but MAYBE it will be my motivation to go at this full force.  (CAN YOU SEE? I'm trying ANYTHING! Blog, paying money to run around a block, etc)  :) I've got to make myself do this.

I'm excited.  We will see how this process goes and yes...I will keep you (me, myself, and I) posted on this thing :)
